Sažetak
In this study we have taken as a starting point the assumption that the presence of farm tourism in a rural area can contribute to the development and revitalization of the rural space. The management of the resources of the rural space has to be organized and oriented towards an aim impliying an accelerated, quality and market- oriented development of the rural space. For many years now, Istria as a developed tourist region, has entertained a great number of foreign and domestic tourists, and in parallel with that, it has been aware that its distinctive features can be appreciated by the market through its own farm tourism. So that agricultural households can funcion, they have to be accompanied by an efficacios form of management of all the resources of a rural area, which includes a complete rural economy, infrastructures, municipal services, physical plans, cultural and historical monuments etc. In addition, the influence exerted by local self-goverments and tourist communities have made a significant contribution in the development of farm tourism and management of resources. The tasks of our research have been to find out which kind of help is necessary for improving such households and from whom the owners of holiday farmhouses can expect organization and incentives. By carrying out this research we have tried to confirm the hypothesis based on the fact that the management of the resources of a rural area is directly connected with the development of the rural environment and farm tourism. By carrying out the research on the spot, we have learnt about the way necessary to propose concrete measures in order to develop agricultural households, which accelerates the progress of farm tourism over the long term, nad in general also the improvement of standard of living in rural areas. Such researches are very inportant for Istria considered as a developed region, whose numerous specific qualities (natural, cultural resources, gastronomy) can attract lovers of agricultural tourism, from our country as well as foreign countries. Local communities, tourist communities and the government policy engaged in the management of rural areas are directly responsible for the successfull management of the resources of rural areas, and as a result for the development of agricultural households.
