Sažetak
Globalization of education has become an undeniable fact. Throughout history it was the higher education institutions that led the way – most of the transnational study practices happened within their walls. With transcultural flows of global media blurring the boundaries between cultural identities, with transnational standardization in education practices, one might be tempted to conclude that we’re facing the age of a ‘globalized student’ – a specific uniformity among individuals which would lead to an easier integration (both academic and social) of foreign and minority students into the educational settings they chose. What are the challenges of an international classroom today and are these diminishing due to the emergence of numerous transnational and transcultural communities? This paper is product of a case-study of an international education setting, providing an insight into the difficulties experienced by both educators and students in adjusting to new cultural ‘forms of life’ present in an international setting, the ways different cultural paradigms influence the classroom environment and the efforts needed to overcome the problem of being ‘lost in translation’.
