Sažetak
Edible mycorrhizal fungi are one of the most important non-wood forest products (NWFP). They represent a valuable source of income for rural populations but also a very popular recreational activity. Despite these facts fungi are poorly known in Croatia. A preliminary research in three different forest types on different soils was carried out in 2011/2012 season to record the most productive fungi forests. Seven permanent 400 m2 plots were established, two in Quercus ilex L., two in Quercus pubescens Willd. and three in Pinus nigra Arnold stands. Soil type was presumed as a key factor and soil samples were analyzed on all plots. Productivity differed between the forest sites and soil types with P. nigra on Eutric Cambisol on flysch bedrock (leptic, endogleyic Cambisol colluvic, eutric, clayic) and Q. ilex on Luvisol (cutanic Luvisol chromic) being the most productive in biomass and abundance. Both Q. pubescens plots on Terra Rossa (folic Cambisol chromic) and Calcocambisol (leptic Cambisol rhodic, skeletic) showed very low productivity and diversity. Beside the plant host, soil type was determined to be a very important factor for fungi productivity. New research on this topic should bring out knowledge on fungal ecology and help the fungi pickers, forest managers and stakeholder to manage this valuable resource in sustainable manner.
