Sažetak
The examination includes a number of 171 pts. from all parts of Croatia. Among them were 37 males (21.6%) and 134 females (78.4%). Ratio of women to men was 3.6:1. Patients were of various professions: manual workers (38.6%), administrators (32.3%), housewives (22.2%) and pensioners (6.4%). Primary education was finished by 52.6%, secundary 32.7% and College by 14.6% pts. The average age of all examiners was 39.8 when a disease started, varying in age from 5 to 67 years (yrs). The male pts. were of elder age (43.2 years) than women (38.9 years). The disease started the most frequently in the autumn, rarely in the spring-time, the rarest in the summer and winter. A menarche usually appeared in 134 women in the age of 14 yrs, and the menopause became evidented in 65 pts (49%) about the 48 yrs of age. The disease started in the greatest number of women varying +/- 5 yrs from the menopause beginning. The disease started in the same way for both - males and females. Positive family history for RA has been found in 21% of women and in 24% of men. The difference in number of joints affected among the sexes was slight. Subcutaneous nodules were discovered in 18.1% of pts, more frequent in men (24%) than in women (16.4%). A correlation of RA duration in women and of appearance of rheumatoid nodules was evidented. Relapses of disease becomes more frequent in the spring and autumn.
