Sažetak
. The application of migrating corrosion inhibitors is one of many methods of protecting reinforcing steel in concrete. This paper presents the results of an investigation of the effect of migrating corrosion inhibitors (MCI)Ž on the corrosion of reinforcing steel when used as a concrete admixture.
The investigation was divided into two segments. First one, electrochemical measurements were performed on single pieces of rebar embedded in mortar specimens without and with the addition of a migrating corrosion inhibitor. The results of this part of the investigation were; corrosion rates, inhibition coefficients and the effectiveness of the inhibitors, which were all, calculated. The second part of the investigation consisted of concrete samples containing three pieces of rebar according to ASTM G 109 procedures, without and with the addition of three types of migrating corrosion inhibitors. The results from this procedure contained measurements of the corrosion current vs. time and total corrosion.
The results from the electrochemical measurements and the ASTM G 109 testing showed that migrating corrosion inhibitors do provide corrosion protection to reinforcing steel if the sufficient dose was added to the concrete.
