Sažetak
With its 800.000 inhabitants (1.200.000 with surroundings) Zagreb is the capital and the largest urban center of Croatia. It is the center of economy, culture and science situated on the crossroads between middle Europe, Mediterranean and the Balkans. The city management is under jurisdiction of City of Zagreb (19 offices) and several municipal utility firms (18 branches). The first stage of the local GIS systems development in Zagreb began at the end of the 1980ies together with the process of cadastral map digitalization. The process continued with creation of other digital spatial databases. An important step forward happens in 2004 after creation of webGIS solution for the requirements of the city management and citizens. GIS of the City of Zagreb comprises of several most frequently used data sets under the jurisdiction of several city offices organized in a unique network service. SDI period begins in 2009 by establishment of city coordination of spatial information. A project "Zagreb spatial data infrastructure" (ZIPP) was initiated as part of the national and European SDI. In this process guidelines of the INSPIRE directive were used and adapted to conditions on local level. As a case study, influence of SDI in sustainable spatial planning and management will be presented.
