Sažetak
The northern Adriatic is the northernmost, shallow and enclosed part of the Adriatic (Mediterranean). It is characterized by complicated set of steep ecological gradients thus providing a large variety of ecological conditions. Due to its characteristics, the northern Adriatic is a natural experimental basin for a large variety of marine research topics (from climate change to the ecology of evolution). However, access to and detailed information about its biodiversity is still not organized at a desirable level. In a cooperation between the BGBM Berlin (Germany) and the CIM Rovinj (Croatia) we undertake first steps to facilitate the access to data about the planktonic biodiversity as well as to the respective biodiversity resources. This includes the connection of local databases to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) as well as joining the DNA Bank Network and the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) in 2012. The phytoplankton cell culture and the DNA-sample collection of CIM is available via the GGBN data portal. The CIM collection contains at the moment voucher material and genomic DNA from more than 500 clonal cultures of northern Adriatic phytoplankton. More than 400 of which are diatoms. Furthermore, clonal cultures and genomic DNA as well as amplified marker sequences are available on demand for the already cultured species as well well as for so far uncultured species.
