Sažetak
Perceptual illusions are inadequate perceptions that more or less do not correspond to objective stimuli situation. An important strategy in finding out how perception operates is to observe situations in which misperception occur. According to Boring (1942) patterns which are called geometrical optical illusions may be classified roughly into two categories: (1) illusions of direction - where orientation of a line or a figure is misjudged, (2) illusions of extent - where size or length is misjudged. The pattern of rotated cross discussed in this paper is classified into the second class. The aim of the study was to examine the existence of geometrical-optical illusion of rotated cross in male and female subjects, and to examine influences of different variables on the illusion. Seventeen male and 17 female students participated in the study and were tested for the illusion using the adequate software. The size of the illusion was tested in respect to: (1) different rotation of the second figure: 15, 30 and 45 degrees, (2) two different distances between the figures, and (3) different sizes of the figures (40, 60 and 80 pixels). The existence of the illusion was established. Size of the illusion is greater for higher degree of rotation, larger figures, and smaller distance between figures. There are no gender differences in the susceptibility to the illusion.
