Sažetak
Purpose: This retrospective study assessed the roleand value of the radiological diagnosis of pneumoperitoneum in preoperative assessment of patients with gastroduodenal perforations. Method and materials: During a two year period, in our Centre, 79 patients underwent surgery for gastroduodenal ulcer perforation. 69 underwent preoperative radiological diagnostic procedures: plain abdominal film in upright, supine and left lateral decubitus positions. Contrast studies were performed in patients with suspected ulcer perforation without signs of pneumoperitoneum. Results: Ten (12, 6%) patients with clear clinical findings of acute abdomen were operated upon without any radiological procedures. On plain abdominal film pneumoperitoneum was evident in 53 (76, 8%) patients. Fluoroscopy with a contrast mealwas additionally performed in 5 (31, 2%) patients with suspected perforation without signs of pneumoperitoneum. Conclusion: Plain abdominal film supplemented with gastrointestinal contrast studies, as needed, gives valuable preoperative information in patients with gastroduodenal perforation.
