Sažetak
The use of plants, plant extracts or plant-derived pure chemicals to treat disease are cyclically returning to complement dermatogic therapy. Over 60 different botanicals are components of cosmeceuticals products. The botanicals of known and potentional dermatologic significance are divided into therapeutic categories and specific indications. Botanicals can be characterized as antioxidants, antibacterial, anti-inflammatories, and skin-soothing agents. They also serve as therapeutic alternatives. In our presentation we shall give a review of some of the formulation issues and considerations regarding the use of botanical agents as topical actives in skin care products. The scientific evidence of clinical efficacy in treatment of certain dermatological disorders with botanicals has been showed. Adverse effects of botanicals in dermatology are common. The most common is allergic contact dermatitis and photosensitization. The use of alternative medical therapy including botanicals is increasing , thus dermatologists should become familiar with this issue to be able to provide optimal medical care in everday practice.
