Sažetak
Camouflage therapy is one of the corrective cosmetics techniques designed for patients to cover their disfigurement and to help them cope with the psychological and physical trauma of the disfigurement. One of common disorder is acne vulgaris, which affect mostly young people at the time when they are undergoing maximum social and physical change and can produce significant psychological problems. Facial defects in acne vulgaris are defects of contour, pigmentation or a combination of both of them. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of camouflage therapy in patients with acne vulgaris on percived quality of life. Fourty patients suffering from acne vulgaris were investigated. Before first visit to dermatologist all patients were tested by psychologist. At the first visit dermatologist prescribed treatment to all 40 patients and to 20 of them showed how to use camouflage make-up. All patients were told to come back for a check-up 5 weeks later, when they were examined by dermatologist and again tested by psychologist. The patient’s were 16-42 years old and they were all female. The general questionnaire (name, age, education, other diseases, duration of acne), DSQL-dermatology specific quality of life questionnaire and APSEA questionnaire were applied to patients. The clinical status was documented on photography’s before and after the use of camouflage therapy. Results: Patients who used camouflage make-up after 5 weeks showed (stat. sign.) lower results on quality of life questionnaire (higher quality of life) and lower result on change of everyday habits questionnaire. Patients who didn’t use camouflage make-up after 5 weeks of treatment showed no sts.sign. difference in perceived quality of life and showed no stat.sign. difference on change of everyday habits questionnaire. Camouflage make-up improves patient’s quality of life and reduces influence of acne on their everyday habits. Camouflage make-up can help patients deal with their acne in the early stages of treatment when other medications haven’t yet started to show results.
