Sažetak
What can happen when digital fabrication tools are used in the field of architecture? The arrival of new digital technologies fundamentally transforms the idea of manufacturing itself and in relationship to architecture. Digital fabrication is becoming more common in architecture, and is challenging our perception of what is possible and expanding our understanding of how project information is created and consumed. On the level of architectural education it is important to highlight that educational institutions are the ones who have power to prepare future generations of professionals for the emerging practices of digital age. We need to start educate future architects to understand and reengage the process of building through digital technology. On the level of design process and architectural practice, it will be presented how digital fabrication can be used during different phases of the project lifecycle supporting both design activities (3D printing of scale models of design options) and production tasks (creating actual building elements). The paper offers a diverse set of ideas about the possibilities and effects of this new revolution on design and practise following new forms, new structures, new construction. Technology and architecture are closely related. Architecture and digital fabrication cannot be regarded as separate domains. They must be united in a uniform understanding. Digital fabrication in the field of architecture is already taking place, and we can simultaneously speculate about its wider implications for the future. It is revolutionizing not only architecture but also other fields and is changing the way we live.
