Sažetak
The questions what medulla is, what it looks like, what are the results of its presence, and what medulllated fibres are really like, even after years of investigation (starting with the beginning of the century) is difficult to answer. To broaden the understanding of wool medullation, medula composition, as well as of the properties of the wool resulting from them, the investigations described here were aimed at defining wool fibre density, which, being the reflection of of fibre structure, can be used in explaining the structure. Investigations described here indicate that density of medullated wool strongly depends upon the size and content of the medulla (air, residues of cellular matter etc.), as well as that using referal value of 1.31 for medullated wool specific density in various processing calculations, means that density error is incorporated in them.
