Sažetak
Social capital is one of the determinants of positive value to economic and social development of community. This paper presents significant research bonding social capital and economic performance and explains relationship between value alignment to economic and general social development. The focus is directed to some important characteristics of social capital and the presumption stating that lack of social capital produces negative effects to general development of society as a whole. Sound base of trust among economic and institutional actors, together with valued and acknowledged cooperation enables long term community progress. The paper is based on the research of a level of social capital of the citizens of the Republic of Croatia from 1995. the point when within World Values Survey the Republic of Croatia has been involved for the first time until the research conducted in 2012. Six temporal points show the change in the level of social capital including generalized trust, institutional trust, norm compliance and alliance. The research results are used for further study of relationship between social capital to realised economic and social performances. Is the lack of social capital the key obstacle to economic and social development in the Republic of Croatia is the fundamental issue of this paper.
