Sažetak
Mobility and accessibility are among most important characteristics of transport system of the city. Since mobility and accessability are already limited in many cities because of excessive use of private cars and inadequate traffic infrastructure development, it is necessary to give priority to non-motorized transportation development. In any case, the removal of the car from the city center, expanding bike trails as corridors to enable fast, environmentally friendly and safe city driving greatly contributes to this linkage. Most European capitals accepted cycle traffic at its center as equivalent segment of traffic, or even the most important one, where the culture of cycling is time-consuming process of changing habits of the entire society. Cycling cities in Europe are structured cycling and have the support of the local government, while on the other hand, in the cities of our region, there is an ongoing battle to eliminate the congestion of cars in the city. City of Zagreb, due to its population and size, shows the ideal conditions to become a "cycling" city. However, according to research, only 1% of the total traffic is cycling. This paper presents a comparative overview of bicycle traffic in the cities in some of the countries in South Eastern Europe with the bicycle traffic of some cities in the Western Europe.
