Sažetak
Croatia is situated in Europe, at the crossroads between Central Europe and the Mediterranean, close to the densely populated and economically developed European countries. Its capital and the largest city is Zagreb. the country is divided into 20 counties and the city of Zagreb. Many transport routes of international significance pass through Croatia. The Adriatic Se, as part of the Mediterranean Sea, penetrates into the central part of the European continent and so, because of this favorable geographical position, Croatia ha been involved in all major historical and present day events. this geographical position was especially important in the late 19th and early 20th century, because of the large-scale industrial development. Croatia has a long-standing tradition of construction with concrete and celebrates an entire century of the use of structural concrete. this first reinforced concrete structure was built in Croatia in tury of the use of structural concrete. The first reinforced concrete structure was built in Croatia in 1900. It was a small bridge over Lomost stream near Ogulin, designed to a Hennebique system. Only a brief overview of some developments in construction sector in Croatia is given in the paper. A particular emphasis is placed on the use of concrete as the most important building material throughout history, from the earliest applications to the modern buildings and highways presently built in Croatia.
