Sažetak
Documenting historical buildings and constructions plays a vital role in keeping historical knowledge alive as well as forming a basis for all future developments and reconstructions. Problem occurs when centralized documentation storage is not present and/or is incomplete, especially now when digital documentation is widely requested and globally accessible. High demand in digital documentation of construction heritage objects such as small sized objects and sculptures, or a large sized monuments and buildings, results in a need for a centralized database. Such database would provide necessary information for different projects that range from archeological and architectural documentation to the basis for future reconstruction management and restoration projects. Recent developments in the acquisition and processing of close-range images made 3D scanning and modelling affordable and more available to the researchers in different fields. The aim of this paper is to present abilities of aforementioned low-cost and user-friendly photogrammetric technique—termed “Structure-from- Motion”—for obtaining high resolution datasets at a range of scales. This techniques was applied on several construction heritage objects in the city of Rijeka with excellent results, thus making future management of such objects through a centralized database a viable possibility.
