Sažetak
The competence of students in shaping literary texts in their native language was analyzed in the corpus of literary works of elementary school students (5th-8th grade) from the city of Zadar and Zadar County. The corpus of about four hudred student's literary works is classified (by theme, by genre, by age), furthermore stylistically analyzed and literary evaluated. Dominant are lyric poems (landscape, patriotic, homeland - local patriotic, reflective, humorous, romantic, religious, ecological or topics from student's and everyday life), storiettes (lyrical, humorous, reflective, patriotic, educational), school essays (mentioned themes or a topic from a class of literature), haiku poems, prose poems, epistolary and diary forms, fantastic shapes and stories. Works on native speech are a special group. The research shows that elementary school students from Zadar are quite familiar with the legality of the creation of selected types and forms, but are not burdened with the form, the content is more important to them. The majority of students present a reproductive attitude towards processing contents, and the use of cliche stylistic means (custom epithets, metaphors, comparison, personification, etc) is emphasized, while a smaller group of children consciously creates something new and original, at all levels of the text. In works, which are written on a dialect, a greater harmonization of stylistic and formal features is noticed, less pathos and, in general terms, more free and more original expression. The research points out the need to include the developement of creativity into the school curricula, but not only declarative and not just for the sake of cultivating children's artistic abilities and skills, but for the integral developement of the human personality.
