Sažetak
During the underwater survey of central Dalmatia in 2006, the archaeologists of Croatian Conservation Institute came across archaeological site located near the Merara islet. The site at the depth of 8 - 10 meters contains a large concentration of amphorae shards, all belonged to a small-sized amphora with ribbed cylindrical body and thick handles that stand higher than the rimless neck, characteristic for the Late Byzantine period. Due to lack of stratigraphy and datable elements on the site, analysis of the amphorae focuses on identifying parallels for the specific form at other archaeological sites. Similar-shaped amphorae have been found only on two sites in the eastern Adriatic, at the Apulian Adriatic coastal site and on the Peloponnesian inland sites. According to the time of construction of the church in which the similar amphora was found embedded, this type can be dated to the 13th/14th century.
