Sažetak
Globalization, followed by severe competition and financial crises, made the environ- ment of insurance companies much more challenging, requiring more changes and con- sequent projects. the increased complexity could not be handled properly by existing resource capacity, so the end result, longer time-to- market and lower roi, negatively influenced both financial results and the long-term competitive position. this trend, and the related opportunity for improvement, became gradually recognized worldwide. con- ducted surveys have revealed that the companies practicing a professional approach to project portfolio management are harvesting significant benefits with positive influence on the competitiveness. As for lack of such data specifically focused on central european insurance markets, the focus of this study was to investigate the maturity level of insur- ance companies’ project offices in the region, as well as to check if the growth of maturity has had a positive influence on the competitiveness of the insurance companies and their groups. in addition, the aim of this paper is also to clarify three roles of modern project management office and that is its strategic, governance, and knowledge transfer role.
