Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to investigate emotions expressed in nonverbal features of characters as well as their translation. The characters in novels express emotions using both verbal and nonverbal means. Thus, the reader can perceive the psychological features of the character, and the novelist can build suspense. This study is based on the German detective novel “Schnee in Venedig” written by Nicolas Remin and its Croatian and Spanish translations. Firstly, dialogues in which emotions are expressed in the original are identified. Further steps include determining which characters use emotions and in which situations, with expressions of emotions described according to their morphological and stylistic features. Finally, the translation of these expressions is analysed, and cultural similarities and differences are determined.
