Sažetak
Review of research grounded in contemporary conceptualizations of childhood and children, as well as research grounded in policies of well-being and children’s rights indicate that the practices of early childhood education are largely at variance with the theoretical foundations and policies. Despite different understandings of childhood and children, both theory and policy emphasize children’s ability and right to participation, respectively. However, practices of early childhood education are characterized by regulation of childhood and marginalization of children that limit opportunities for children’s participation. This indicates the necessity of researching children’s perspectives about their everyday lives in early childhood education, including their participation.
