Sažetak
The introduction is based on a description of an approach to pavement structure design which ensure a safe and comfortable transportation while being cost effective in maintenance and rehabilitation of road during its design life. In Croatia, the design of flexible and composite pavements is carried out according to national standard, HRN U.C4.012, which is based on principles of AASHTO method. Examples of composite pavement structure design provided in the paper include several motorways in Croatia. These projects are based on the years of experience in using AASHTO guidelines in Croatia, including computer program DARWin (1997 AASHTO Pavement Design).
PMS in Croatia is being implemented using HDM-4 model with purpose to ensure cost effective road management in Croatia. A PMS suitable to purpose and adjusted to local conditions as well as to status of road infrastructure, will enable regional and national road authorities to carry out optimal annual and long-term pavement maintenance strategies.
