Sažetak
Traditional sailing ships used for day-trips and cruises are part of Croatia’s tourism offering and traditional heritage. Despite existing for many years as a specific form of nautical tourism, the sailing-ship offering has still not been recognized as a significant part of nautical tourism in Croatia. Considering the steady increase in the number of sailing-days per vessel, as well as in the number of tourists, this paper examines the rules and conditions applied to sailing ships used for pleasure trips, with the aim of improving vessel and passenger safety. The authors analyse sailing-ship traffic and features, identify the current condition and explore opportunities for developing this aspect of nautical tourism. The paper presents sailing ships used for day-trips and sailing ships used for cruises, and it provides an analysis of these sailing ships, their traffic and Adriatic destinations. The paper outlines the rules for traditional sailing ships stipulated by the Croatian Register of Shipping. The authors expound on the solutions of the Croatian Government contained in the modernization programme of the pleasure-boat fleet. They underline the socioeconomics impacts of this form of nautical tourism and put forward measures to foster its further development.
