Sažetak
The mutant genes and chromosomal disorders can act to disturb gamete formation and to impair normal embryonic development. It is obvious, that besides the aneuploid segregation do to parental chromosomal aberration, a post-zygotic factor leads to uncontrolled chromosome distribution in early cleavage stage. In order to investigate aetiology of the infertility in our population and to assess the chromosomal component in a group of infertile couples and individuals with fertility problems, 783 persons (259 couples, 158 male and 106 female with different clinical diagnoses of sterility and infertility, were analysed cytogeneticaly. Overall frequency of mayor chromosomal aberration is 13.1 % (103/783). Reported frequency in general population is less than 1%, what suggests that fertility or sterility problems are one of the most certain symptoms for the chromosomal aberration. A cause for the repeated spontaneous aberration and/or malformed child and sterility problems in 18.0% (47/259) couples is also chromosome abnormality. Chromosomal disorder in couples seeking IVF and ICSI is considerable, (22.2% - 8/38 couples) especially minor mosaicism of sex chromosomes in the female partners. Incidence of chromosome abnormalities in group of infertile men is also increased -17.7% (28/158), and within subfertile female group is 26.4% (28/106), a figure significantly different from control frequency of 0.4 % for women in general. Investigations are supported by grant #062008 of the Croatian Ministry of Science.
