Sažetak
In today’s competitive environment, many higher education institutions find it necessary to focus on their customers. Partnership with students, based on fulfilling their needs and encouraging their engagement, leads to their satisfaction and loyalty. Therefore, students’ satisfaction is often considered as the most important result of the education service. Although students’ satisfaction is important, other measures of higher education quality may be even more important. This study suggests that focusing only on students’ satisfaction with higher education service is uninformative and insufficient. Higher education institutions should aim at students’ development and growth. Student engagement is the best predictor of their development and growth. Therefore, this paper identifies and analyses influences on students’ engagement in the higher education context. Survey includes perceptions of the students from 56 higher education institutions in Croatia. The research of students’ engagement at the Croatian higher education institutions revealed how both, individual and institutional characteristics influence students’ engagement.
