Sažetak
Retail is a specific activity that requires precision, accuracy, compliance, high level of organization and management, supply and marketing, inventory management, accounting, analytics, planning and forecasting sales and a cash register (POS). ERP system as information system for retailers takes the burden of all activities. Coordination, exchange of information on predefined schedule and proper support to business processes are the key that separates the best from good companies, and all of this is the main features of business information systems. This paper explains the role and importance of business information systems - ERP systems, their connection in vertical retailing industry and presents the results of our research on major retail chains in Croatia and business information systems that organizations use in this sector. Financial cost of ERP system is main factor that influence on level of adaptability business processes within the organization which has been confirmed by research. Organizations have stressed how important is adaptation of business processes, price of ERP solutions, having all data in one place, but also that they are confident and consistent, credited by law, a transaction carried out in retail has to provide the necessary information in a given timeframe. This research, which analyzed situation in major retail organizations in Croatia, provided useful information’s that showed what is the real situation and the level of theory appliance in practice.
