Sažetak
The island of Vis belongs to the group of south Dalmatian islands and lies in eumediterranean zone. The area of island is 90.3 km2 and the highest part is 587 m above the srea level. Island contains 460 plant species from 76 families. Floristic exploration of Botanic section was aimed on four sandy beaches: Milna, Stončica, Vela Smokova and Zaglav in period between 1st and 11th of October 2005. 76 taxa from 36 families has been recorded. The most abundant families are Asteraceae (10.5%) and Chenopodiaceae (6.6%). Two critically endangered species were confirmed: Calystegia soldanella (L.) R.Br. and Pancratium maritimum L. Four new species were found: Elymus farctus (Viv.) Runemark ex Melderis is critically endangered, Glaucium flavum Cr. and Hibiscus trionum L. are endangeredn and Salsola soda L. is vulnerable. Due to the fact that the sandy beaches are quite rare on Croatian side of Adriatic coast, they should be carefully protected by law.
