Sažetak
Skin prick test (SPT) and specific IgE (sIgE) to SM: Lepidoglyphus destructor (LD) and Thyrophaus putrescentiae (TP) were studied in a random sample of 26 male paper-mill workers (41.27 ą 10 yrs) and in 36 control workers (42.9 ą 6.7 yrs) not exposed to occupational pollutants. SPT was performed with Epipharm-ALK allergens. An urtica D+d/2 3mm or greater was considered a positive skin test (PT+). sIgE was measured by immunoCAP technology Uni CAP (Pharmacia AB Diagnostics). Values <0.35 kUA/L were considered nonspecific (sIgEO) and values >0.35 kUA/L increased (sIgE+). Significantly higher prevalence of subjects with sIgE+ and PT+ to LD was found in paper-mill workers than in control subjects (38.5%:8.3% p<0.005) and to TP (50%:16.6% p<0.005). In paper-mill workers there was significantly greater mean skin reactivity (D+d/2 mm) to TP than to LD (6.31 ą 2.31:3.11 ą 1.53; p<0.001) in subjects with sIgE+. Such a difference was not found in control workers. In relation to control workers significantly higher prevalence of sensitized persons (sIgE+ and PT+) to LD and TP was found in paper-mill workers, indicating the necessity of monitoring health effects as well as the number of storage mites in occupational environments.
