Sažetak
Introduction of spiral computed tomographic technology has greatly improved vascular imaging. Spiral CT technology is characterised by fast acquisition and volumetric scanning, combined with a dynamic intravenous contrast material bolus, it provides data sets for vascular imaging with spiral computed tomographic angiography (SCTA). The aim of this work is to present the diagnostic approach to vascular pathology with spiral CT in our department, with special emphasis on scan (examination) protocol parameters for SCTA of the aorta. Te selection of patients examined with SCTA is based on the clinical condition and other diagnostic methods (conventional X-ray methods, ultrasound9. In our department SCTA is performed on a single-slice spiral CT scanner with application of a non-ionic iodine contrast injected intravenously. The scan protocol parameters SCTA of the aorta are the collimation width (5-8mm), reconstruction spacing (2.5-4.0mm), pitch (1.5), scan delay (15-20 seconds), contrast material dose (100-150ml)and flow rate (2.0-4.5ml/sec.). Selection of the scan parameters is based on the patient's constitution and on clinical issues. After scanning the reconstruction (multiplanar reconstruction, two and three-dimensional reconstruction)were performed on an additional workstation. During a one year period 15 patients were evaluated according to the protocols for SCTA of the aorta. In 12 patients thoracic and abdominal aneurysms were diagnosed, and dissection was found in 4. SCTA of the aorta can show most aortic diseases and give enough information fo diagnostic and therapeutic decisions, providing the scan protocol parameters are accurately selected.
