Sažetak
There is abundant literature on cooperation for innovation and a growing interest for university-industry cooperation since governments have decreased spending for research, forcing research institutions and universities to do more applied research. In this paper, we examine the whole manufacturing sector, and look into the differences between cooperating with others (customers, suppliers, etc.) versus cooperation with research institutions. Out of the whole sample, 78.7% of companies cooperate with others, while only 18% of the whole sample cooperates with universities or other research institutions. In this work we show that university – industry cooperation clearly demonstrates higher returns on sales of new products (products new to the firm and products new to the market). This leads us to conclude that research – industry cooperation brings benefits. However, two regression analysis were conducted, which showed that cooperation with research institutions does not guarantee higher probability of launching new products, so we believe that further investigation in effects of research-industry cooperation should be conducted.
