Sažetak
If we exclude the area of SE Europe (Western Balkans), the European Neighbourhood in the East includes new neighbors - Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The process of EU enlargement to Central and Eastern Europe showed that the former Soviet Republics are very important as the main objective of European foreign policy of the stability and prosperity in its neighborhood. Because of the importance of their geo-strategic position, there has been a need for more systematic inclusion of these countries in the project of European foreign and security policy. Parallel with the development of security and defense policy, the EU has developed a different policy towards its neighbors in order to strengthen stability and security beyond the EU and to impose itself as a regional and global player in the stabilization of European and international issues. In this paper, the emphasis is on the Eastern Partnership (EaP), the policy that EU is developing towards its neighbors in the Eastern Europe and South Caucasus. The main goal is to set out the key security challenges of the Eastern neighborhood and to determine how the Eastern Partnership helps stabilize the security of Eastern Europe and South Caucasus.
