Sažetak
Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski (1816 - 1889) was establisher of modern historiographic disciplines in Croatia. The aim of this conference paper is to present his contribution to the field of art history and to offer an interpretation of his work in the historical context - specific political situation of the Croatian territories after the 1848 revolution. An emphasis would be placed on the fifth decade of the nineteenth century as the key period of articulation in terms of ideas, programmes, and methods, as well as the institutional organisation of historical disciplines. In that context, particular regard would be put to Kukuljević’s understanding of historiography – its role in enlightening the nation, based on the idea of the historical continuity of national collectivity and its traditions. Considering the principle of collection as the central methodological paradigm of his work in the field of historiography, specific accent would be put to Slovnik umjetnika jugoslavenskih (Lexicon of Yugoslav artists) as Kukuljević’s seminal achievement in the field of art history.
