Sažetak
The aim of the study was to examine the consequences of multitype maltreatment on psychological adjustment in young adulthood, as well as how coping strategies affect psychological adjustment. 233 students from University of Mostar, 18 to 35 years of age, took part in this study. Multitype maltreatment data was obtained from the questionnaire developed by Higgins and McCabe. We used Croatian version of Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) to evaluate coping strategies, while psychological adjustment was assessed with Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC-40) of Briere and Runtz. Significant correlations were found between different forms of maltreatment, coping strategies and psychological adjustment (r=0, 13-0, 34 ; p<0.05). Maltreatment scores and coping strategies significantly predicted total scores on TSC-40 (R=0, 616, F=27, 806, p<0, 001). These results have shown that the experiences of multitype maltreatment predicted variety of psychopatological symptoms, while coping strategies have influence on relationship between maltreatment experience and psychopatological symptoms.
