Sažetak
In the presentation entitled „In to the great wide open“ we presented on the previous congress our initial point of research – the cemetery of Zavrč located in eastern Slovenia, which will remain topical also in the present engagement. We exposed the problem of continuity and discontinuity in the use of natural environment as an attractor of different forms of burials in the Late Bronze Age and we presented in a chronological order finds focusing on the period of the older Urnfield Culture. Analyzing them in a closer and broader cultural context, we accentuated the different concepts perceived in the broad network of contemporary cultural meaning within the spacious territories of the Carpathian basin and the Pannonian plain. With the passage to the younger part of the Urnfield Culture the situation in the south- eastern Alpine areas, including Zavrč, indicatively changes – with the “new light” we are witnesses of a markedly increase in the quantity of bronze, appearance of new, different types of bronze artefacts and their different structuring, further the use of different alloys and the dominance of new technologies coming from the “ west”, with the circulation of the so called Alpine bronze comes also a “new reality”. Within it Zavrč, as a spatial attractor located on the crossroads of different cultural spheres, gained an outstanding role. It became materialized in a specific and limited aspect through several indicative graves, supplied with an abundance of bronze artefacts consisting of personal equipment, jewellery and weapons. Analyzing them we focused on the quest for the conceptual significance linked to the individual with a defined social status and the artefacts which were the direct demonstrators of the symbolic of his status and at the same the manipulation of his cultural knowledge in the frameworks defined in the social relations performed mostly inside the Ruše cultural group. But the accentuated new social and economic concepts inside the broad network of contemporary cultural meaning within the spacious territories of the Alps and the Apennine peninsula will be our “ache” presented on this year’s congress.
