Sažetak
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international environmental treaty with objective to "stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system." The Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC is an international treaty that sets binding obligations on industrialised countries to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. As part of the Kyoto Protocol, many developed countries have agreed to legally binding limitations/reductions in their emissions of greenhouse gases in two commitments periods. The first commitment period applies to emissions between 2008 and 2012, and the second commitment period applies to emissions between 2013 and 2020, pending Doha amendment entering into legal force. A new platform of negotiations under the Convention has started which is planned to deliver a new and universal greenhouse gas reduction protocol, legal instrument or other outcome with legal force by 2015 for the period beyond 2020.
