Sažetak
The purpose of this paper is to explore recent trends in the Croatian agriculture and forestry business sector and compare it with the whole economy. This topic should be considered interesting because recent business years have been heavily influenced by the global financial crisis. Many authors would say that agriculture, as a specific branch of economy, does not follow general trends, since it is very much affected by other, especially environmental factors. However, we found that during the period 2007-2011 agricultural entrepreneurs in Croatia shared the destiny of the whole economy.The crisis had the most negative impact on Croatian economy in 2008/2009 period when the GDP growth rate tumbled from 2.4% to -5, 8%. Although some positive movements had been recorded after 2009, recession is still going on. Based on information from the national Financial Agency (FINA) data base we found that agricultural entrepreneurs were following general trends, except in case of average monthly salaries and employment. The highest value of total revenues of agricultural business entities was recorded in 2008 with HRK 18.0 billion, and after that time it dropped down to HRK 15.5 billion (approximate currency rate: € 1.0 = HRK 7.5).
