Sažetak
Motivation and employee satisfaction have for a long time been in focus of the theory and practice of management and, more specifically, human resources management. Motivation is definitely the key determinant of the employees' behavior and their performances at work. This paper is based on a recent empiric research carried on in a large manufacturing enterprise in Croatia. The enterprise has been carrying on systematic surveys of employee satisfaction at work for a number of years, and the results of those annual surveys are used in this research as a basis for deeper longitudinal analysis. The analysis is trying to find out correlation between changes in the level of employees' satisfaction, and specific variables within and outside the enterprise that could represent relevant factors influencing employee satisfaction at work. Results show that the most significant single factor influencing employee satisfaction has been the possibility to acquire new knowledge and develop new skills (intrinsic), but several extrinsic factors showed strong influence too, like good relationships with coworkers and managers, and working conditions. Studying possible correlation of employees’ satisfaction with some factors from external environment, weak connection has been found with variation of employment, average wages in Croatia, as well as with GDP growth.
