Sažetak
The paper deals with the need to preserve Zagreb’s central zone from the running car traffic. It considers relatively convenient traffic division into public and non motorized traffic dating from the late twentieth century, which has become rather inadequate over the last years. The paper shows the elaboration of the car traffic model for the basis year of 2005. The travelling model was calibrated by the fuzzy logic algorithms. The idea to construct the central city ring at the distance of 3, 3 km from the centre was introduced, and the traffic effects of this operation from 2010 to 2030 have been calculated. The necessity of road ring construction for the radial traffic distribution from motorways to the city zones has been proved. The road ring’s capacity to relax the city network was determined. The timely need for conversion of the city’s relaxed road network for non-motorized, e.g. public transport was specified. The paper points to the modes of road ring design in the city network, stating its economic and social justification.
