Sažetak
The article presents the development of the town of Vinkovci during 18th and 19th centuries. A special emphasis is given to the early stages of formation of the urban settlement in the aftermath of the Srijemski Karlovci Peace Treaty and to the role of the military district ("Vojna Krajina"). The author elucidates the administrative, political, demographic, ethnic, economic, urban, educational, and cultural aspects of the town’s development.
