Sažetak
Three Vinkovci residents have made their mark on Croatian archaeology, so that no historical review of the growth of the field can bypass their contributions. Many vital topics have been touched by their works, all the way from the oldest prehistoric periods to the Middle Ages. Two of them , Josip Brunšmid and Viktor Hoffiller, were born in Vinkovci. Stojan Dimitrijević was born somewhat further east, but the vicissitudes of life brought him to the city at a young age. All three have in common that they spent most of their professional careers elsewhere, in Zagreb, but their ties to Vinkovci were never broken. Vinkovci, Slavonia and Pannonia formed them, both as men and as scholars and scientists.
