Sažetak
Due to supply depletion and constant price increases of fossil fuels, as well as their negative impact on the environment, the European Commission decided to encourage consumption but also the production of "green" energy from renewable energy res ources by Directive 2009/28/EC. A part of the mentioned problems can be mitigated by production and energy utilization of lignocellulostic energy crop for the biomass production, grass Miscanthus x giganteus. The harvest of the mentioned grass can be carri ed out from November till the beginning of a new vegetation cycle. In each climate zone, the optimal harvest time has to be determined considering the properties of Miscanthus x giganteus biomass. To determine the optimal harvest time of Miscanthus x gigan teus, experimental sites have been set up at three locations in Croatia (D. Bistra, Medvednica and D. Lapac). The aim of this paper is to determine the approximate and ultimate properties (heating values, fixed carbon, ash, volatile compounds, content of C , H, O, S, N), as well as micro and macro elements of Miscanthus x giganteus biomass harvested at three different harvest times (November 2011, February and March 2012) in the first growing year.
