Sažetak
Wind turbine energy potentials on the Croatian coast/islands are evaluated by means of the cooperating CRO-EOL expert system (ES). The methodology of the expert system allows for the selection of the optimal wind turbine (WTG) locations and the optimal commercially available wind turbines. WTG electric energy production is predicted on the selected locations for the selected WTG.
Reliability of the meteorological wind speed basic data is a prerequisite for the realistic estimation. It depends on the accuracy and frequency of the input anemometric data and the characteristics of the model applied for the spatial and temporal wind energy prediction.
Input data from the anemometric stations located along the Croatian coast were processed by the National Hydrometeorological Service (NHMS) in 1997. by applying WASP programme. WASP modeled potentials on the nothern part of the Croatian coast are found to be lower compared to those obtained by other method/models in previous studies. Twenty-nine selected macrolocations meet the basic criterion of minimum 5.5 m/s annual average wind speed at 25 m a.g.l. The operation of the WTG is simulated, after selecting WTG and their sites within 29 macrolocations. This results in the annual WTG energy production for each macrolocation.
Calculated total energy production on all twenty-nine macrolocations amounts to 375.9 GWh/year, 605.6 GWh/year and 792.3 GWh/year depending on the WTG unit power (250, 500 and 700 kW respectively). This makes app. 6% of the el. energy consumption in Croatia in 1995.
