Sažetak
Background: The study was conducted to investigate the association of body weight (BMI) among adolescents and the factors that influence their attitudes about body image and appearance satisfaction such as personal characteristics, lifestyle, media monitoring, deviant eating habits, social recognition and acceptance of standards of physical appearance appearance and personal satisfaction. Methods: The study included 479 students of all third- grade high school Bjelovar-Bilogora at the age of 16.8 ± 0.46 years which is the measured weight and height and calculated BMI.The instruments in this study were feeding habits questionnaire (EAT-26), satisfaction questionnaire assessment body shape (BSQ), socio-cultural attitudes questionnaire about physical appearance (SATAQ) questionnaire, and dissatisfaction with body image by the image scale (CDRS). In addition, participants completed a questionnaire of personal characteristics, eating habits and physical activity and frequency of media coverage. Results: Results show that 78% of normal weight women, 6.3% of the lean and 15.7% obese, and obesity. Significantly more women with a BMI> 85th percentile who live in rural areas, while other characteristics, habits, and media monitoring showed no significant association. An elevated score on the EAT-26, which refers to eating disorders is 9.2% of girls. Girls with higher body weight achieved significantly higher results, while other features have no significant impact. According to the BSQ, 63.9% respondents were satisfied look, and pathologically concerned is 6.3%. The results also indicate that skinny girls less than other recognized social standards relating to appearance, but no difference in the acceptance of social standards. The highest scores on all questionnaires and the biggest difference in the perception of the current-desired show look overweight and overweight girls. Of the girls who often or always keep a diet, 51.2% were normal weight, and 48.8% in those older than 85th percentile. Conclusions: Significant risk predictors of aberrant eating habits as body dissatisfaction, acceptance of standards of physical appearance and the time spent watching TV. Other variables are not at significant risk or protective factors for the development of aberrant eating habits.
