Sažetak
Within the new concept of traffic policy in Croatia, increasing significance is given to the safety components. At a high-risk network of public roads in the lenght of 28, 000 km and density of 0, 5 km roads per 1 km2 of territory about 60, 000 accidents with 700-8000 fatalities occur annually. Along with great material investments in constructing motorways, there is an increasing need for better maintenance and modernisation of the existing network. The existing and planned preventive measures through long-term programs are described, with special emphasis on the education of children and systemic protection of the young and inexperienced motorists.
