Transition, Central and Eastern European Countries
Sažetak
Transition theory has been establishing itself during the last three decades as a relevant and influential democratization theory. Transition approaches coincide with the fall of totalitarian regimes in Southern Europe and South America, as well as with democratization processes in these countries, i.e. the third transition wave. Democratic transition processes of the post- communist societies have largely contributed to significance of transition theory. However, the process raised some new and complex issues due to the fact that transition in post-communist societies has many various features, which make it very much different from the South transitions. Dynamic processes in Central and Eastern European post-communist societies, facing democratic transition, are a huge challenge for numerous social scientists working on defining and understanding great social changes appearing in these societies. Many of these transition theory aspects have been discussed in this book. It includes works related to the subject of transition processes in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe offering a relatively wide image of specific features and different experiences of democratic transition, as well as ways of thinking and interpreting contemporary social reality in those countries.
