Sažetak
Objective: Dental esthetics has become very important issue in modern society. Clinitians have to be prepared to meet the esthetic demands and high expectations of their patients. Different variables may influence the esthetic quality of restorations. The purpose of the study was to compare the patients' and dentists' perception of direct and indirect maxillary anterior restorations in relation to colour, shape and surface texture. Method: A total of 200 patients participated in this study. Both patients and dentists compared the color, shape and surface texture of their direct and indirect maxillary anterior restorations with those of a natural teeth using a Visual Anlogue Scale as well as evaluated their overall satisfaction with the restoration appearance. Result: The overall satisfaction with the restoration appearance was high (86% of patients and 70% of dentist were satisfied) with dentists more critical when judging (p<0.05). In patient group, the colour, shape, surface texture and type of the restoration influenced the variability of the patients' overall satisfaction with appearance of the restorations by 38% (p>0.05). In dentist group, the same independent variables influenced the variability of the dentists' overall satisfaction with appearance of the restorations by 66% (p>0.05). Conclusion: When planning tretment, dentists should take into consideration patients' esthetic objectives in addition to function. The colour, shape, surface texture and type of the restoration seem to be important factors in esthetic evaluation for both patients and dentists.
