Sažetak
The Plitvice National Park, a system of 16 beautiful lakes, listed in the World Heritage of UNESCO, lies in the region Lika in the middle of
Croatia. The chemical properties of water and vegetation enable the fundamental phenomenon of the Plitvice Lakes, the formation of travertine that settles and creates barriers with the water pouring over them creating beautiful waterfalls. The interdisciplinary project titled "Dynamic three-dimensional geodetic model of the Plitvice
Lakes, travertine barriers and river streams" has been started in order to produce a digital 3D-model of the lakes for a multipurpose dynamical geoinformation system (GIS) in order to support the research of other geoscientists.
The GPS network was stabilized and observed, and the digital model of the geoid surface was computed on the basis of measured astrogeodetic
deflections of the vertical and the GPS/levelling points in the area.
Echo-sounding of the bottom of the lake Kozjak has been undertaken as well, resulting in the first preliminary 3D-model of the lake. It is being planned to build specially constructed markers into the travertine barriers and to observe them permanently in order to make exact measurements of the sedimentation process dynamics on travertine
barriers. Periodical GPS campaigns using the fundamental network of control geodetic points are going to show geodynamic activities in this area.
