Sažetak
Capsaicin activates sensory nerve endings in the nose and promotes neurogenic inflammation. The aim of this presentation was to study and approve such an inflammation in human nasal polyps. For this purpose, 0.5 ml of capsaicin 100 muM solution was delivered on the surface of the polyps, and left there to stay for 10 minutes before polypectomy. Control polyps were those from the other side of the nose. Specimens were fixed in 10% formaline, embedded in paraffin and stained with hematoxylin-eosin and Giemsa. They were aslo stained immunohistochemically with the mast cell triptase, CD20, CD3 and Ki67 antigen. The study has shown inflammation in capsaicin-treated polyps that was characterized with an increasing number of eosinophils and redistribution of degranulated and non-degranulated mast cells.
