Sažetak
The paper analyses the distribution of resistant bacterial strains isolated from urine samples from patients treated in Outpatient Department for Urogenital Infections of the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases "Dr. Fran Mihaljević", in a 4-year period (1996-1999). In 1996, a total of 11 different bacterial strains were isolated, of which 53,89% Esch.coli, 18,44% Enterococcus, 9,22% Proteus mirabilis and 8,07% BHS-B. In 1997, a total of 13 different bacteria were isolated, of which 53,30% Esch.coli, 22,33% Enterococcus, 10,06% BHS-B, and 5,19 % Chlamydia pneumoniae and Proteus mirabilis. In 1998, 12 bacteria were isolated, of which 50,08% Esch.coli, 22,38% Enterococcus, 10,63% BHS-B, and 6,94% Proteus mirabilis. In 1999, 13 different bacteria were isolated, of which 50,72% Esch.coli, 24,28% Enterococcus, 7,08% BHS-B and 6,50% Chlamydia pneumoniae. Almost 90% of all patients were females. Klebsiella oxitocca was isolated in only one patient in 1996 and 1997. Citrobacter freudii and Citrobacter diversus were also isolated in only one patient in 1997. In 1999, Providentia rettgeri was isolated in one and Serratia marscensens in another patient. In the period between 1996-1999, no significant difference was recorded in Esch. coli resistance to amoxycillin, ranging from 53-49%. Also, in this period, no significant difference was recorded in Esch. coli resistance to cefuroxime, gentamicin, nitrofurantion. In the observed period, the incidence of Esch.coli resistance to tetracyclines ranged from 19-50%, to cephalexin from 5-48%, to co-trimoxazole from 2-25%. In the period between 1996-1999, a decrease was recorded in the resistance rates of Enterococcus to ciprofloxacin (from 15 to 6%), a decrease in the resistance to gentamicin from 61% to 9%. In 1999, the resistance of Enterococcus to nitrofurantion was not recorded. Resistance to amoxycillin ranged from 1-4%, and to tetracyclines from 64-90%. During the first three years of the observed period, the resistance to co-trimoxazole was 43-69%, and in 1999 was not examined. Third most frequently isolated bacteria from urine culture were strains BHS-B, except in 1996, when it was Chlamydia pneumoniae. In 1996 and 1997 all isolated BHS-B strains were susceptible to amoxycillin, with 3% resistance recorded in the last two years. In the observed period, we recorded a decrease in resistance rates of BHS-B to tetracyclines from 85 to 69%, as well as a decrease of resistance to co-trimoxazole from 52 to 28%. Nitrofurantoin resistance was recorded in 2-14 % of strains.
